The 2023 Motorcycling SA Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday, April 9th 2024 at MSA Hall on The Parade at Beulah Park, with 20 attendees representing 12 of our affiliated clubs, along with another 10 online through Teams representing 8 affiliates, along with 5 MSA Board Members.
After the required Reports were tabled, President, MSA Office, Sports Managers and Financial, the 2 incoming MSA Board members were ‘elected’ for the next 2 years, with Brenton Matters and Sofie Kraft being the only applicants. This meant a vote wasn’t needed and both were welcomed by all present.
Sofie responded in that, while she feels she has a lot to learn, she has thoroughly enjoyed her 18 months as an appointed Board Member, and she now looks forward to working to make the sport even better, while enlarging her knowledge base as an elected Board Member.
Brenton then thanked all present, before making it clear that he will not be re-standing to be the MSA President, so ending his tenure in the ‘top job’ at 12 years (see below) and stated in his report that: “I want to thank you all for the support I have had from across the sport in the past 12 years. I want to thank the MSA Board Members past and present for their support and contribution to the sport. I was going to step down from the Board completely but there is still unfinished work to do, so I am staying on the Board to support Rocky Warren as the new MSA President predominantly on National matters.”
Although not to be confirmed until the May MSA Board Meeting, Paul ‘Rocky’ Warren has been anointed as the incoming MSA President, and he will become just the 10th person to hold the position of President, since the MCC of SA became what is now MSA in 1952.
All present welcomed Rocky to the position, and he stated that while Brenton was remaining as his Vice President (incoming) for the next 2 years to concentrate on the National issues, Rocky himself, will be focussed more on what happens inside SA’s borders and continuing the resurgence in participation numbers post COVID-19, and that he looks forward to working with all of MSA’s affiliates over the next 2 years.
This means the make up of the MSA Board for the coming year will:
- Rocky Warren President 2023-24
- Brenton Matters Vice President 2024-25
- Carole Fear elected 2023-24
- Sofie Kraft elected 2024-25
- David Parker appointed
- Mike Hampton appointed
Both Rocky and Brenton did state, most emphatically, that new people are always welcome to apply to sit on the MSA Board, with the current Board having now implemented a 3 term limit (6 years) of holding a Board position, to ensure a continuing roll over of new people and ideas coming into the sport.
To this end, the Motorcycling SA Office will open nominations for the MSA Board’s 2 elected positions on September 3 2024, with the timeline to be as follows:
- MSA Board nominations OPEN Tuesday, September 3rd 2024
- MSA Board nominations CLOSE Tuesday, December 3rd 2024
- MSA nominations Ballot sent to Clubs Tuesday, January 7th 2025
- Ballot closes Tuesday, March 4th 2025
- Any new Board members announced Tuesday, April 8th 2025 – 2024 MSA AGM
The 2 positions that will be up for re-election are currently being held by Rocky Warren and Carole Fear.
The floor was opened for questions and after a few relating to the MSA Annual Report, the meeting was closed at 7.47pm.
The normal ‘bar talk’ then flowed amongst all present, with the doors of MSA Hall finally being closed at just after 9.00pm, with MSA and the MSA Board thanking all the Clubs that took the time to attend, including:
