This weekend marks the highly anticipated return of classic favorites and the debut of thrilling newcomers as we launch into the 2024 South Australian Motocross Championship. We are excited to welcome Three 3s Apparel and Merch as a major sponsor for 2024. Be sure to stop by and check out their stand next weekend, and say hello to the team. We are also thrilled to welcome back longtime supporter Great Southern Security, which will continue its partnership with us for another year. Speaking of returning legends, the Motocross Riders Association will kickstart the 2024 Championships, promising an electrifying start to what is set to be an exhilarating weekend ahead.
With the deadline for late entries now passed, excitement is in the air as we prepare for this weekend’s introduction to the 2024 SAMX Championships. A remarkable count of over 231 riders and 280 bikes are poised to hit the track, with all eyes on who will take the holeshot and claim an early Championship lead.
As the countdown to the first gate drop begins, let’s shine a spotlight on some of the key talents set to tear up the MRA track this weekend:
Reigning 2024 King of the Gulf Champion and ProMX talent, Siegah Ward returns to challenge the likes of Penrite Go 24’s Brett Metcalfe and the Honda Australia Factory team duo of Wilson Todd and Kyle Webster.
Round 1 will witness a fierce MX 2 competition, with 22 racers hailing from NSW, Vic, QLD, and SA vying for victory. Mitch Norris, the reigning MX 2 Champion, aims for a third title in 2024, facing a stacked field of stiff competition, including the emerging talents of class newcomer Wil Carpenter. Wil has aged up in 2024 to seniors and is taking on the MX 2 class after claiming the 2023 Junior Lites Championship.
The MX All Powers Women’s class makes a triumphant return, led by perennial champion Amy Bartsch. However, Bartsch faces the hard-charging challenges of a determined Emma Haylock and the formidable Charli Cannon, both eager to dethrone her Championship reign.
Showing that age is just a number, seasoned veterans are making a comeback with former champions Bradleigh Thompson (35-44) and Darren Averay (45+) once again taking their place on the grid for another exhilarating season.
Additionally, the lineup includes 24 Experts and 25 Clubmen, adding to the excitement of the weekend’s senior program. With the Championships of these two classes having been decided in nail-biting fashion in 2023, anticipation is high for what promises to be another nail-biting year of racing action. Make sure you don’t miss a moment of the new 2024 Championship chapter.
The future of the sport shines with promise as nearly 130 riders gear up to show off their skills, including the returning 2023 Championship talents of Bodhi Austin, Charlize Waldhuter, Kye Little, Riley Mullen, and Kobe Smart, ready to leave their mark once again. Joining them are a stack of fresh faces, eager to take their own race wins at MRA.
In addition, the 50cc demo non-competitive class will hit the track, providing our young racers with a taste of the state Championship atmosphere. This experience will help them hone their skills and lay the foundation for their journey in the sport.
For SAMX fans eager to witness the Championship opener firsthand, head down to MRA Gillman this weekend. The action kicks off both days at 8 am, and be sure to stay updated on all the Championship action through the SA Motocross Facebook page and the Motocross Riders Association Facebook page.
